Not exactly a WWJD moment (what would Jesus do), but Luigi Mangione apparently saw Brian Thompson’s IHC as responsible. Responsible, for not only killing many of their clients’ faith in basic healthcare, but for causing the death of any number of actual patrons, as well. While employing this jawbone of an ass, to steer the murderous oligarchy ever farther from empathy, compassion, and the fiduciary responsibility owed to their Insureds’ medical needs.
For whatever reasons he may have had, Luigi Mangione seems to have symbolically taken on this giant corporation, and driven the money grubbers, if only temporarily, from their healthcare temple. Using the modern, 9mm equivalent, of a rock and slingshot, I might add.
We’re somehow compelled to ask, did he have an underlying motive? Or did he feel compelled, by chance — and possible circumstance — to do whatever he thought he could do, to rectify the situation? Possibly cause a change in their course and ways of doing business? Or were his actions simply some form of revenge?
Deluded? No doubt. But he doesn’t appear to have been in it for the myth, the money, or the movie rights.
